I’ve been eyeing these ones for a long time and it’s finally time to bake them!
SURPRISE! There’s peanut butter in the middle of them! Martha is such a trickster.
You’ll notice a new setup in my pictures today because I moved! I love my new kitchen. There is way better lighting and it even has COUNTER SPACE!
Step 1: Gather ingredients: Chocolate chips, eggs, cocoa powder, peanut butter, baking soda, baking powder, vanilla, butter, brown sugar, sugar, vegetable shortening, flour.
Vegetable shortening?! Ew, why?
Step 2: Whisk together flour, cocoa powder, baking soda, and baking powder.
Step 3: Beat butter, both sugars, and shortening until light and fluffy.
Step 4: Add eggs, one at a time.
Rich.
Step 6: Stir in chocolate chips, then refrigerate dough for 1 hour.
Ugh. Waiting for dough to chill is agonizing!
Step 7: Mix peanut butter and brown sugar with a rubber spatula.
This is good for you.
Step 8: Drop a tablespoon of dough onto baking sheet and press a thumbprint in each one.
Step 9: Fill thumbprint with 2 teaspoons of peanut butter mixture.
Hell no! These were full with 1 teaspoon of peanut butter mixture.
Step 10: Cover with another tablespoon of dough. Mold together.
These are going to be huge!
Step 11: Bake for about 12 minutes.
These look great!
Yields: 30
I got: 24
Start time: 8:45
End time: 10:45 (2 hours)
Martha’s estimated time: 2 hours, 10 mins (I beat her!)
What did I learn?
- Peanut butter is messy! Wait, I knew that.
- I can bake and watch the Olympics at the same time without screwing up!
What do I need to learn?
- What is the purpose of shortening? It’s so greasy and, really, just gross.
Aren’t you glad I made chocolate cookies? Wait, what?! SURPRISE! There’s peanut butter in there!
I’m so stupid.
Who eats all the things you bake? This is a problem for me when I try new things. If my brothers don’t eat it, I end up throwing it away and most times, I can’t be bothered to cook for one.
Hey, thanks for reading and commenting!
I take all my cookies to work and feed people there. I’m very popular. 😉
I’m jealous. I wish I could do that then everyone would love me 😀
These look amazing!! Kinda sort like these that I made: http://cookiecarrie.com/2012/06/19/peanut-butter-surprise-cookies/
Look at all that counter space!! I’m so happy for you. 🙂
Also P.S. 2 posts in one morning?! You’re spoling me.
oh and P.S.#2 – shortening supposedly makes them fluffy.
I guess I can see that. The batter was fluffy at that point. Thanks!
Absolutely gorgeous! I love the idea of these 😀
Look good! I miss getting to eat your treats, These I may have to bake & share with my new group.
Ooh they will love you! We should always make the same recipes! You can send me pics to compare. 🙂
You make very gorgeous bakes, lovely! =)
Vegetable shortening makes things better… it is gross but try banana bread with butter and then try it with shortening. The one made with shortening is WAY better!!!
MMMMMM! These are SOOOOO good! I was wondering what you did with the PB to make it so creamy…congrats on the counter space and keep em comin buddy 🙂
Omg they were so good and I got to help!
Ahahah this food blog is awesome! I actually love it, and I’m not just trying to flatter you!
I’ve never cooked anything by martha stewart before, but you’re kind of inspiring me.
